Meet the designer of The Moonshadow Moth Garden, Resilient Planting Pocket at RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival 2024

Sarah Mayfield, One Garden Brighton horticultural alumnus and current lecturer, will be creating a show garden for this year's RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival. Inspired by the South Downs and the East Sussex coast, Sarah understands how to maximise the potential of a garden in a coastal city where resilience and adaptability are an everyday reality.

As a newly qualified garden designer, Sarah studied at world famous Plumpton College, at our Stanmer Campus. As part of her course, she was given the opportunity to work on previous show gardens, providing vital knowledge needed to create her own. She now teaches propagation, soil health and pruning.

Sarah says:  “Having worked in a team at a local show as a designer and then as a volunteer supporting designers at RHS shows last year I was inspired by the creative flair that the focus of these projects evoked. The feedback and learning from judges and the public made everyone think deeply and develop new ideas in an exciting way. I knew I wanted to develop a show garden of my own as a challenge and a way of developing as a professional.”
